The exhibition presents a selection of photographs of Alentejo cities and towns and demonstrates the relevance of Artur Pastor's legacy for the knowledge of the history, morphology and identity of urban centers in the region.

The exhibition, organized by the Regional Directorate of Culture of Alentejo, CIDEHUS – University of Évora and Lisbon Municipal Archive, can be visited until April 18, from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 14:00 pm to 17:30 pm.

Artur Pastor (Alter do Chão, 1 May 1922 – Lisbon, 17 September 1999), engineer and photographer, studied at the Escola de Regentes Agrícolas de Évora.

In his professional life, he reconciled these two activities and, from 1953 onwards, he began to work as an agricultural conductor and photographer for the General Directorate of Agricultural Services.

His vast work – more than 10 images – served as the basis for the ministerial photo library, documenting all kinds of works, agricultural scenes, or technical equipment of the State. But his activity as a photographer was not exhausted in this dimension. He traveled all over the country and left us a vast and relevant photographic work that is a remarkable contribution to the history of our country.

He participated in numerous exhibitions in Portugal and abroad, in international salons, in competitions and collaborated in numerous national and international publications. In 2001, a large part of its estate was acquired by the Lisbon Municipal Archive.
