Guadiana Nautical Station already makes plans for the future

First Council of the Baixo Guadiana Nautical Station took place last week in VRSA

The Baixo Guadiana Nautical Station already has official partners and an action plan. The partners of this project, which aims to affirm this territory as a nautical destination, met in Vila Real de Santo António (VRSA) last week to formalize their adhesion to the initiative and outline the strategy for the future.

The 1st Council of the Baixo Guadiana Nautical Station took place at the headquarters of the Associação Naval do Guadiana, in VRSA, the coordinating entity that led the application and certification process and drew up the Action Plan now presented to the founding members.

The Baixo Guadiana Nautical Station project unites the territory of four Portuguese municipalities in the Guadiana (VRSA, Castro Marim, Alcoutim and Mértola), in addition to the Ayuntamiento de Ayamonte, and responds to the cooperation challenges that have been identified to develop nautical tourism in the Eastern Algarve and take advantage of the maritime-tourist potential of the Guadiana river.

The protocol signed last week defines the priorities for the station and points out the strategic goals to be developed in the coming months.

"Among the outlined objectives is the dissemination of the territory as a nautical destination, the establishment of initiatives that contribute to a partnership work in the field of nautical and nature activities and the creation of an Action Plan to be approved annually by the partners", revealed the Chamber of VRSA, one of the project partners.

The Nautical Stations «are a network of quality nautical tourist offer, already quite widespread in Italy, France and Spain, and which, as is already the case with the ski resorts, establish a diversified tourist offer around its activity that includes accommodation , catering, cultural events, nightlife, among others».

The initiative also involves local administrations, regional and local tourism entities, nautical clubs, marinas and recreational ports, maritime tourism operators, hotel and restaurant establishments, among others, organized in a network.

“The Baixo Guadiana Nautical Station was the only one certified with a multi-municipal and cross-border character, having the particularity of being coordinated by a public utility association”, concluded the Chamber of VRSA.
