Lagoa firefighters get new ambulance

«We have been reinforcing every year our support to the Lagoa Fire Brigade because we know the importance of the services they provide», says Francisco Martins, Mayor

Last Monday, February 11, the Lagoa Fire Department received a new ambulance to transport emergency patients and a trailer with a water pump in case of flooding.

It was Francisco Martins, mayor of Lagoa, who handed over to Joaquim Cintra Lima, president of the Lagoa Fire Brigade Association, the two pieces of equipment that are intended to strengthen the technical capacity of that fire brigade.

«We have been reinforcing every year our support to the Lagoa Fire Brigade because we know the importance of the services they provide. But in order to respond with the best services to those who need them, Firefighters need human, financial and technical means. It is to reinforce the technical resources of the Firefighters that we are here today», said Francisco Martins during the visit to the firefighters' installations in Lagoa.

The Mayor of Lagoa, accompanied by Vice President Luís Encarnação, and by Councilors Ana Martins and Jorge Pardal, also addressed the President of the Association of Firefighters Joaquim Cintra Lima and Commander Vitor Rio to thank them for a gesture of solidarity that it will be assumed with S. Domingos, a Cape Verdean municipality twinned with Lagoa.

The firefighters in Lagoa should, next month, deliver to their Cape Verdean colleagues an ambulance car that, despite being in good condition, cannot be used in Portugal because it does not comply with some Portuguese legal norms (as in for example, have the seats oriented in the direction of travel).

The Municipality of Lagoa will ensure the transport of this vehicle to Cape Verde.
