Professor António Covas is a regular columnist at Sul Informação

The book “The Sixth Continent – The Internet-Nation – The great bifurcation of the digital age”, by António Covas, is presented next Friday, February 8th, at 18 pm, at the Álvaro de Campos Municipal Library, in Tavira .

The presentation will be in charge of Jorge Queiroz.

Based on this nation-Internet metaphor, António Covas addresses "a topic of crucial importance for our future: digital culture and the complex relationships between technology and humanity", reads the synopsis.

“The Internet-nation, which grows like a kind of sixth continent, emerges in an impressive way and imposes itself in our daily lives. As an immense virtual cloud hovers over the physical world of the remaining continents. It is difficult to predict how these two universes, physical and virtual, will cohabit and interact in the near future».

«We only have signs to be able to affirm that nothing will remain the same, even the evolution of our own species, which, by virtue of the growing man-machine hybridization, is heading towards immortality, whatever that may be. The texts in this book are small flickering lights on the expansive horizon of the sixth continent and aim to create a small embryo of reflective critical thinking on such an important subject», he concludes.

The book is by Edições Sílabo. You can read part of the work, here
