Aljezur hosts Meeting of Geosciences Teachers from Alentejo and Algarve

The Meeting is organized by the Association for the Defense and Dissemination of the Geological Heritage of Alentejo and Algarve

The XIII Meeting of Geosciences Teachers from Alentejo and Algarve will take place on the 4th and 5th of May, in Aljezur, with the generic theme “The Geology of Costa Vicentina”.

On the first day, at the Aljezur Basic School, there will be several lectures, starting with Professor Delminda Moura, from the University of Algarve, who will talk about «Management of the coast? Concepts, management tools, threats and expected evolution».

This is followed by Pedro Cunha (University of Coimbra), who will address the theme «The stratigraphic expression of the evolution of relief in Portugal during the Cenozoic», João Cabral (University of Lisbon), who will talk about «Active faults and associated seismicity» .

The day's program is completed with lectures by Ricardo Ressurreição (LNEG) on «Geological evolution of the Costa Vicentina Coastal Strip, during the Cenozoic», and João Mata (University of Lisbon) on «Mesozoic Magmatism in the Iberian West Bank in light the process of opening up the Atlantic Ocean'.

The second day of the Meeting, Sunday, May 5th, will be dedicated to a Field Trip, in the area between the beaches of Monte Clérigo and Arrifana, which will have as its theme the geology of the region of Aljezur and will be guided by J. Tomás Oliveira (LNEG), Sofia Soares (Polytechnician Beja) and Paulo Fernandes (University of Algarve).

The Meeting is organized by the Association for the Defense and Dissemination of the Geological Heritage of the Alentejo and Algarve (Association DGPA) and by the Aljezur Basic School, with the support of the Municipality of Aljezur.
