Maritime Police seize half a ton of cockles in the Ria Formosa

Cockle was returned to its natural habitat

The Maritime Police of Faro seized 500 kilos of cockles, last Tuesday, January 22, in the secondary eastern access channel to Barrinha, in Ria Formosa.

According to the Maritime Authority, the cockle was seized "from two recreational boats and one vessel registered in professional fishing", in "full activity of cock collecting".

Maritime Police agents raised a notice for excessive capture and transport in a pleasure craft and also for navigation in a protected area.

The bivalves, as they were still alive, were returned to their natural habitat, in the Ria Formosa.

Five elements of the Maritime Police participated in the operation, supported by two 4×4 motorcycles and a vessel of the Maritime Police of Faro.
