Swimmer of the Algarve Regional Team wins gold medal in the Vale do Tejo Cup

The Algarve team finished in 8th place, with a total of 227 points

The Algarve swimmer Ana Romão won a gold medal in the 100m backstroke, with a time of 1:11.01, of the XXVII Vale do Tejo Cup, which took place this Saturday in the municipal swimming pools of Abrantes.

The Algarve team also won two bronze medals, one by João Ricardo, in the 100m backstroke, with a time of 1:06.09, and another by Carolina Mesquita, in the 400m freestyle, with a time of 4:53.59.

In the table of best performances of the tournament, athlete Carolina Mesquita was in the top 5, in the children's category, with her performance in the 400m freestyle event, and with a time of 4:53.59 and with a total of 509 FINA points.

All these results contributed for the Algarve Regional Team, in the children and youth classes, to reach this Saturday the 8th place in the Vale do Tejo Cup.

The competition was attended by 287 young swimmers (143 male and 144 female), representing, for the first time, the selections of the thirteen swimming associations affiliated to the FPN: Nordeste, Minho, Norte de Portugal, Centro Norte de Portugal, Coimbra, Leiria , Santarém, Lisbon, Interior Centro, Alentejo, Algarve, Madeira and Azores.

The Lisbon Swimming Association (SANL) team triumphed with 415 points, followed by the Northern Portugal Swimming Team (SNNP), with 380, and the Leiria District Swimming Association Team (SNDL), with 345.

The Algarve team finished in 8th place, with a total of 227 points.
