Internal Medicine will be increasingly decisive in the treatment of the patient

National Congress of Internal Medicine takes place from the 23rd to the 26th of May, in Vilamoura

The Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine has just made available the platform for the submission of abstracts for the 25th National Congress of Internal Medicine, which will take place from 23 to 26 May, at the Algarve Congress Center, in Vilamoura.

This initiative, organized in partnership with the Hospital and University Center of Coimbra, will have as its central motto “Internal Medicine at the center of the decision”, a position that, according to Armando Carvalho, president of the congress, “will allow our specialty to have a future and contribute for a better future for those we serve”.

The internist also adds that "with the increase in the complexity of patients and the progress of medicine, multidisciplinarity will be increasingly decisive in approaching patients and their treatment, which requires increasingly diverse teams, led by internists who bring I get a comprehensive view of the problems”.

With this edition, which is expected to have the largest participation ever, the organization intends to promote the discussion on the central role of Internal Medicine in areas such as clinical decision and management, healthcare planning, and insertion of artificial intelligence in practice hospital.

A Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine (SPMI) is one of the largest Portuguese medical scientific societies, which brings together internists, who are the base of the National Health Service in hospitals.

One of its greatest purposes is the dissemination of knowledge, aimed at physicians and the population, in the vast field of Internal Medicine. In addition to Curative Medicine, it also wants to be increasingly recognized in the field of disease prevention and health promotion.
