“António Costa should have been the voice of moderation, but he was an example of radicalism”, accused Luís Marques Mendes on Saturday, during a party dinner organized by the PSD in Portimão, in that city.
The former president of the Social Democrats, who was the first guest of this cycle of party dinners, added that the reaction of the leader of the Government in Parliament «is not an isolated case, but a sign of the irritability or disturbance of those who lead the Geringonca».
The visit to Portimão of Luís Marques Mendes, who carried out a local and regional analysis and did not forget to mention the “instability” of Prime Minister António Costa, filled the room and brought people from 12 municipalities in the Algarve to this local PSD initiative.
Carlos Gouveia Martins, president of the PSD/Portimão, explained that this cycle will "alternate" between "dinners with personalities with relevance in the history of the PSD" and "purely themed dinners, with local and regional personalities, with the aim of debating important themes for the municipality and thus further enhance the local political project Pensar Portimão».
According to a statement from the Social Democrats, “there were no empty seats and, contrary to the daily difficulties in any political-party event, there was even a need to add tables and chairs, given the expected numbers, so that everyone could fit into the dinner that the structure site of the PSD of Portimão organized with the former president of the PSD, Luís Marques Mendes, as a guest».
The initiative was then attended by «about a hundred PSD sympathizers, with representation from 12 of the 16 councils in the Algarve», and with the «presence of all the district political structures», namely the vice-president of the PSD/Algarve, the president of JSD/Algarve, the president of TSD/Algarve and the coordinator of the MSD/Algarve movement».
Carlos Gouveia Martins was satisfied with «centering the party debate and the construction of ideas in Portimão», which he considered «fundamental for our objective of continuous improvement».
For the leader of the Portimonenses social democrats, the room filled with representatives from across the region was "an unmistakable sign that we are united locally and we have the unanimous respect of our political family throughout the Algarve."
In the coming weeks, the PSD/Portimão will start thematic meetings, as it recently approved in the Political Committee all the coordinators for each thematic area, as well as indicating the dates of the thematic dinners and respective guests.
