Infralobo invests in an innovative irrigation system to save water and energy

The company estimates saving up to 40% on the water bill and up to 30% on the electricity

Infralobo has invested in an intelligent irrigation system that will allow it to save on water and electricity bills. O Smart Irrigation System of the company that manages infrastructure and green spaces in Vale do Lobo, in the municipality of Loulé, will be presented on Wednesday, 23 January.

"Oh Smart Irrigation System is an intelligent irrigation system associated with a weather station that makes it possible to program and remotely control irrigation devices from a smart room, helping to combat water waste, save energy and reduce costs», explained the company.

By monitoring indicators such as rainfall or soil moisture, the system allows you to activate or deactivate irrigation mechanisms depending on weather conditions and the real need for water. Infralobo estimates, with this new technology, “to achieve savings between 20% to 40% in water costs and between 10% to 30% in energy, since the water pumps and the programmer will only work when necessary”. Currently, the company spends "between 180 to 240 euros a year to water the 22 hectares of green spaces it is in charge of."

«With this system, it is possible not only to save on the water bill, but also on the bill for the treatment of diseases caused by excess water, or the replacement of plants. By controlling a set of indicators such as rainfall or humidity, the system further reduces the chance of human error. In the event of a breakdown or breakage, the system also issues an alert. The method may also, in the future, benefit residents, by providing an application with information based on the meteorological center that will help them reduce their own water consumption», explained Infralobo.

In this initial phase, 60 thousand euros were invested, with an 80% co-payment by CRESC2020, «with the objective of implementing the technology and immediately reducing water consumption in one of the areas of greatest consumption».

The investment includes the installation of meters, sensors mapped by georeferencing and a meteorological center.
