The Algarve companies Solution Ozone and Caviar Portugal signed a collaboration protocol that includes a study «which aims to effectively eliminate microplastics through the use of ozone».
This ambitious goal is one of the components of the agreement that the two companies, both headquartered in the business space of the University of Algarve's Campus de Gambelas, in Faro, celebrated this Monday.
The Solution Ozone, a startup In the area of Research and Development of Technology, which sells ozone generators and other "tailor-made solutions", it will, from the outset, implement systems that reduce or cancel the use of chemical products in the production chain of Caviar Portugal, a company that intends to produce in large-scale sturgeon and their precious roe in Portugal.
«With this protocol, Solution Ozone intends to contribute to the sustainability of the planet and improve the quality of life of the population. Ozone is 100% natural and one of the most powerful elements on the planet, being a strong oxidant and revitalizing and a powerful ally in the fight against microorganisms, and can be used both clinically and industrially”, according to startup Algarve.
In addition to making available the technology already commercialized by this company, the protocol also includes the opening of a line of scientific investigation.

«Although no microplastics have yet been identified in our products, we believe that this is a real problem and that we need to be prepared with preventive solutions. Ozone allows us to maintain optimal water quality in our production systems from a chemical and microbiological point of view. If we can also combine this with the elimination of microplastics, the advantages are many. The idea seems to us very interesting and viable, so we embraced this collaboration with Solution Ozone from the very beginning», according to Paulo Pedro, executive director of Caviar de Portugal.

Because, according to the company, «ozone is one of the largest disinfectants in the world and is 100% natural, being a possible solution in the fight against microplastics».
