The creation of the Choir of the Southern Classical Orchestra (OCS) is a novelty in 2019 and a “unique project in the south of the country”, with its premiere scheduled for 7 June.

This choir, says the OCS, "will allow us to broaden the range of productions that can be presented by the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, in addition to the new experiences that this opportunity will provide to the participants."

The coordinator and vocal coach of this project will be Rui Baeta, a renowned Portuguese baritone, who joins the Orquestra Clássica do Sul «for this challenging initiative».

Aware that the OCS choir will have a «very inspiring path of development», Rui Baeta is preparing to coordinate a mixed choir to accompany the orchestra in some concerts of its artistic season, through the interpretation of specific repertoires for choir and orchestra.

The first official rehearsal of the OCS choir will take place on February 4th and the first performances are already scheduled.

The debut concerts will take place on the 7th of June, at the Grande Auditório de Gambelas, Universidade do Algarve, in Faro, and on June 8, at Igreja do Carmo in Tavira.

Both moments will be orchestrated by conductor Rui Pinheiro and will be interpreted “Gloria in D major, RV 589”, by Antonio Vivaldi, a masterpiece for choir and orchestra.

In parallel to this initiative, Rui Baeta also offers a limited number of places for individual opera singing lessons, for those who wish to improve their vocal technique. Participation in these classes implies payment of an amount agreed with the trainer.

The OCS choir, as a non-professional training, accepts entries from people with or without experience in choir singing and with a minimum age of 18 years. Registration is free, runs until January 31, 2019 and must be formalized by sending an application to the e-mail [email protected] with the following information: name, age, nationality, place of residence, occupation (in case of retirement or unemployment, indicate the last function performed) and a brief summary of the musical activities developed/experience in the area.
