“Phenomena” photo contest wants to raise awareness about climate change

One of the goals is to raise awareness among citizens in general and photography lovers about the phenomena of climate change and associated socio-environmental threats

The ecoVerney program of the School of Science and Technology of the University of Évora, in partnership with the Intermunicipal Community of Central Alentejo (CIMAC), with the support of the Portuguese Institute of Photography, promotes the photography contest “Phenomena… on climate change”.

The competition is also supported by local and regional organizations, such as the Évora City Council, GESAMB, the Alentejo Region Coordination Commission (CCDRA) and the Nabeiro Group.

The objectives of the competition aim to raise awareness among citizens in general and photography lovers to the phenomena of climate change and associated socio-environmental threats, as well as to promote a careful observation of the environment around us and also to promote photography as a universal tool for raising awareness. environmental.

The first prize has a value of 2000 euros for the best photograph and the second place receives 1000 euros.

The Phenomena competition honors Professor João Corte-Real of the University of Évora, the first Portuguese climatologist and researcher of great national and international relevance, giving his name to the first prize.

The jury is composed of seven personalities from the fields of photography and science: Miguel B. Araújo, researcher-coordinator in the field of Climate Change, awarded the Person Award 2018, Maria do Mar Rêgo, photographer, Luís Aniceto, photographer (IPF ), Vítor Cid, photographer (IPF), Maria Teresa Batista, researcher in Environment and Development (CIMAC and Évora University), Jorge Pulido Valente, coordinator of the Forum for Climate Change in Alentejo (CCDRA), and Maria Ilhéu, professor- researcher in Ecology and coordinator of ecoVerney (University of Évora).
