Cine-concerto takes Marilyn Monroe, Filipe Raposo and Ricardo Ribeiro to Estoi

“Video Lucem”, which is supported by 365Algarve, goes to its second session of the new edition

A film based on the famous painting “O Fado” by José Malhoa and also the possibility of seeing the last film in which Marilyn Monroe participated. So it's going to be the next cine-concert of the "Video Lucem" to be held this Saturday, January 19, at Palácio de Estoi (Faro). In the musical part, Ricardo Ribeiro, Filipe Raposo and Rita Maria promise a bold night.

As you know, this edition of “Video Lucem”, that started in Olhão, will only show unfinished films, which in itself is a challenge. The session in Estoi will be no exception, but that doesn't intimidate pianist Filipe Raposo.

"I am sure that a very interesting session from a musical and cinematographic point of view awaits us, but this is, of course, a daring challenge", he confessed to Sul Informação.

Three films will be shown on the screen: “Something's got to give”, by George Cukor, “Three days without God” (Bárbara Virgínia) and “O Fado” by Maurice Mauriaud. Filipe Raposo, Ricardo Ribeiro and Rita Maria will ensure the musical part.

three days without god

«”O Fado” is an incredible film, based on José Malhoa's painting, but, curiously, directed by a French director», explained Filipe Raposo to our newspaper. In this cinematographic work, of course, the musical part will feature Ricardo Ribeiro, a well-known fado singer.

The second film to be shown (“Three days without God”) also has an “interesting historical particularity”. «This was the first Portuguese film made by a woman. Bárbara Virgínia was 22 years old, which also makes her the youngest director in the history of cinema», according to Filipe Raposo.

“Three Days Without God” is from 1946, a year after World War II. “There was still a crisis of values. In Portugal we were also going through the long night of the dictatorship… In a way, this film symbolizes that dark age», says Filipe Raposo.

One day, a “primary teacher arrives in a village lost in the mountains and opposes a meal that an elderly woman wanted to do for a sick student. It so happens that, that week, the village priest and doctor are absent and we were able to understand how, at that time, these were, in a way, the representations of God on Earth», says the pianist in conversation with the Sul Informação.

Finally, “Something's Got to Give” will also be screened, whose curiosity is to be the last film in which actress Marilyn Monroe appears. «When I was watching the film, the feeling I had was that I was entering a private place, close to the director, in the back stage to see Marilyn without being in her state of actress», said, between laughs, Filipe Raposo.

Asked if it is difficult to set an unfinished film to music, Filipe Raposo was perentório. “I feel the narrative is already there. What remains is a kind of personal fantasy that leads us to finish the film, to lead the actors to the end we want», he said.

As for the fact that the cine-concert takes place in the Palácio de Estoi, an emblematic space in the municipality of Faro, is seen, by Filipe Raposo, as another eye-catcher. «Art can happen anywhere, but there are places that are more favorable for moments to create more special memories», he told our newspaper.
