Improve the working conditions of the Algarve referees teams. This is the objective of a protocol signed last Friday, December 7th, between the Football Association of the Algarve and three Arbitration Centers in the region.

In addition to the unprecedented protocol, the Regional Arbitration Plan was also signed, in a ceremony attended by Alves Caetano, chairman of the AFA board, José Albino, chairman of the Algarve Arbitration Council, Luciano Gonçalves, chairman of the Portuguese Association of Football Referees, and the presidents of the António Matos Football Referee Nucleus (NAFAM), the Barlavento Algarvio Football Referee Nucleus (NAFBA) and the Sotavento Algarvio Referee Nucleus.

“The signing of these protocols is very important because we have effectively been working towards an approximation and communion of efforts so that we can all value arbitration in the Algarve together”, said Alves Caetano, who hopes that “these conditions are now supported by these protocols can bear fruit so that the referees can work more and better».

«From now on, a lot will change, since the referees were used to training on tarmac, dirt or sand and now they will have an athletics track and a grass for their training and I think it was an excellent initiative of the Association. We will, of absolute certainty, have more referees in the Algarve at a national level in a few years”, said João Ribeiro, president of NASA.

For Luciano Gonçalves, «this is an initiative of great relevance because it involves the Nucleus in the management of their workplace and clearly shows the association's openness to what the referees want, which in itself is very important».

«The protocols help the referees' Nucleus to work better and better for their members and for football in the Algarve», considered Pedro Sancho, president of NAFAM, in turn.

An idea that was shared by Carlos Encarnação, president of NAFBA: “the protocol improves training conditions and consequently our skills, namely with the help of a physical trainer who will enhance our skills for the games,” he said.

For José Albino, “the importance of the Nuclei and the signing of this protocol is vital”. “Since the beginning of its mandate, the Arbitration Council has been trying to bring the Association's Nuclei closer together, also through their inclusion as AF Algarve members to give them a greater role, more importance and closer proximity in this house”, he highlighted.

On the occasion, the young referees who joined the Algarve Football Association this year received their diploma from José Albino and a referee kit delivered by Luciano Gonçalves.
