The Algarve Granfondo takes place on the 24th of February and, for each participant, a tree will be planted in the Monchique mountains.

The event, associated with Volta ao Algarve, has been open since last Monday night, with more than 230 registered participants. Therefore, 230 trees guaranteed.

«One of the novelties of the 2019 edition of Algarve Granfondo is the solidarity nature of the initiative. Despite having departure and arrival in Loulé, we understand the event as a realization of the whole Algarve. Therefore, a tree will be offered for each participant, in a cycling contribution to the reforestation of the Monchique mountains, affected by the fires of last summer», explains the Portuguese Cycling Federation.

Algarve Granfondo will have departure and arrival in Loulé and the participants will have two possibilities to choose: the Granfondo with 110 kilometers and a cumulative 2200 meters and the Mediofondo with 60 kilometers and a cumulative of 1100 meters.

According to the Portuguese Cycling Federation, «the Granfondo is intended for participants in better physical condition, able to accept a demanding challenge, compensated by the fantastic landscapes of the Algarve mountains, which include the Reds and Ameixial ascents, crossing points of the Volta to the Algarve».

«Mediofondo, on the other hand, presents a route accessible to all profiles of riders, even those who use the bicycle sporadically. Ideal for those who want a quiet Sunday morning, with the possibility of, at the end, moving calmly to the top of Malhão to watch the final effort of the heroes of Volta ao Algarve».

Enrollment in Granfondo or Mediofondo guarantees participation at the chosen distance, solid and liquid supplies, gifts, frontal, insurance, medal, bath and buffet lunch.

The 2018 edition had 800 participants, a number that is expected to be repeated in 2019.

Enrollments, made until December 31, cost 25 euros for federated members and 30 euros for non-federated members. From January 1st to February 21st, the values rise to 30 euros (federated) and 35 (non-federated)
