Paderne returns to the Middle Ages to celebrate the New Year

In addition to a Medieval Market, there will be lots of animation and characters dressed to the nines

Paderne returns to being Medieval on New Year's Eve. The village in the municipality of Albufeira will dress up to host the already traditional Paderne Medieval event from tomorrow, Saturday, until the 1st of January.

Dances, performances, food and drink, arts and crafts will introduce visitors to the habits and customs characteristic of the Middle Ages. For four days, the Municipality of Albufeira, which promotes the event, will try to recreate the «daily life of a village between the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries» and there will not even be a lack of typical characters of the time.

Altogether, around 12 visitors are expected, who will be able to enjoy the Medieval Market that will become the historic nucleus of the village, but also «dances typical of the time, historical recreations, arts and crafts demonstrations, medieval delicacies and lots of entertainment ».

"The high point of the event is set for the first day of 2019 with a historic procession, at 15 pm, which portrays the ceremony of handing over the Donation Letter from the Castle of Paderne, by D. Dinis, to the Order of Avis", according to autarchy.

The event opens at 12:00 pm and closes at 21:00 pm, with the exception of December 31, when it closes at 19:30 pm. On the last day of the year, the City Council provides a bus with stops in Salgados, Olhos de Água and Albufeira, for those wishing to visit the event.

Entry to Paderne Medieval costs 1,5 euros.
