Lagoa municipality offers artwork to the GNR to mark the Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

The offer was delivered by councilor Anabela Simão

The Municipality of Lagoa offered the National Republican Guard (GNR) a work of art by students from the Lagoa School of Arts guided by the artist Patico, to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which was celebrated on the 25th from November.

The work was delivered by the councilor of Social Action of the municipality, Anabela Simão, to the Unit Commander, Colonel Joaquim Paulo Fernandes Crasto, in the Criminal Prevention and Community Policing Section of the Silves Territorial Post.

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is celebrated every year on 25 November and aims to alert society to violence against women, namely cases of sexual abuse or harassment, physical and psychological abuse.

“This is an issue that deserves more and more reflection in a year in which statistics show that cases of domestic violence in Portugal have increased in relation to the previous four years”, stresses the Câmara de Lagoa.

According to the Observatory of Murdered Women (OMA), since the beginning of the year until the 20th of November, 24 women were murdered in Portugal, 67% of whom had an intimate relationship with the aggressor.
