Government pays first support to sardine fishermen

This support aims to compensate for the temporary stoppage of the activity, in 2018

The Ministry of the Sea today paid the first support to sardine fishermen, as compensation for the temporary stoppage of the activity, in 2018, motivated by the preservation of this resource.

Today, 1 million and 378 thousand euros were paid by the IFAP, «corresponding to the first applications, immediately covering 400 fishermen and 45 vessels», according to the Ministry of the Sea.

The ordinance of the Minister of the Sea Ana Paula Vitorino that covers these compensations determines that each vessel master will receive 2400 euros, while the other fishermen receive 1920 euros.

"Payments for the remaining applications, as well as the second tranches of this support, will be made at the end of each month, as the respective proof is submitted by the beneficiaries and validated by the competent administrative services", concluded the tutelage.
