Almodôvar Chamber regrets the closing of Millennium BCP bank branch

This decision, despite being "a private company", "aggravates the degradation of services to which the public has become accustomed"

The closing of the Millennium BCP bank branch in Almodôvar «is not in the municipal interest and does not serve the interests of the population» says the Municipality of this municipality of Baixo Alentejo.

In a statement, the municipality informs that "it has formally received information that Banco Comercial Português, Millennium BCP, will close its branch in Almodôvar."

The Chamber considers that this decision, despite being "a private company", "aggravates the degradation of services to which the public has become accustomed".

Furthermore, «the municipality of Almodôvar has a very acceptable quality of life and all the banks present in the municipality have, to date, demonstrated profitability and economic stability».

Thus, the municipality stresses, "it is therefore visible that what is at stake is not a decrease in the municipality's economic potential, but rather a financial return on the entity through the reduction of miscellaneous expenses, including costs with facilities and personnel" .

«The argument of this private group is that measures must be taken to anticipate future financial problems, as the globalization of digital services, with most customers accessing services via the Internet, reduces the need for a personalized service and a direct customer service», he adds.

“We know that these decisions are of a private nature and that the banks are where they choose to be. But we also know that those who are betting on our municipality deserve the commitment of the City Council executive and, for this reason, we regret the decision of this banking entity, which has had, until now, all possible commercial support from our City Council». concludes the statement.
