Pupils from public schools in the 1st Cycle of Lagos learn to play golf

These learnings will be integrated into the Curriculum Enrichment Activities

The Municipality of Lagos and the Espiche Campo de Golfe will celebrate a Collaboration Protocol, which aims to develop Golf (initiation) in the Public Education Primary Schools of the municipality of Lagos.

The draft of the document was present at the last Chamber meeting, held on December 5th, deserving unanimous approval.

The learning will be integrated into the Curriculum Enrichment Activities (AEC), in the field of Physical and Sports Activity (AFD), in cooperation between the AEC/AFD teachers and the golf coach.

The technician/instructor provided by Espiche Campo de Golfe will visit schools in Odiáxere, Espiche and Santa Maria, this school year, and share, in a first phase, his knowledge with the students.

The Câmara de Lagos adds that this partnership is part of axes 3 and 4 of the Strategic Plan for Sport Development of Lagos, which aim to provide “better outdoor recreational and leisure sports spaces” and build “more dynamic and cohesive partnerships” .

The partners recognize that «playing golf helps children's development, increasing their ability to concentrate and reason, as well as their motor control. As it is practiced outdoors and in contact with nature, it also promotes a healthy lifestyle. Both the partnership to be signed and the project that already exists with the Portuguese Golf Federation, they also intend to demystify the idea that golf is a sport only for elites».

The Municipality thus reinforces the work that was already being done in the 1st cycle schools, under the Drive School project, which is supported by the Portuguese Golf Federation (FPG), and in the scope of which students from the 3rd and 4th years have been receiving initiation to the practice of this sport in the AECs/AFD, using the kits that were made available by the Federation and participating in the annual competitions that are organized in schools.

In this context, it is planned to hold a Municipal Drive School Meeting (which took place last year at Boavista Golf Resort and this will be held at the school on April 28, at Onyria Palmares), in which students enrolled in this project will be able to play golf with parents.

The best student players who qualify in each of the phases will be invited to participate in the regional tournament (Drive School Regional Sul, to be held on May 18, at Salgados Golf Course) and then in the National Drive School Championship (which will take place on the 1st and 2nd of July, at the Montado Hotel & Golf Resort.
