150 events from Zé Manel Taxista to Salvador Sobral mark January in the Algarve

There are suggestions for all musical tastes, in addition to dance, theatre, exhibitions, festivals, markets and sporting events

The hundred and a half proposals that promise to liven up the first days of 2019 are in the «Guia Algarve. The highlights go to Salvador Sobral, the Festa das Chouriças and the humor of Maria Rueff, without forgetting the «365 Algarve» program, but there are suggestions for all musical tastes, as well as dance, theater, exhibitions, festivals, markets and events sports.

Starting with the cultural program «365 Algarve» and by offering unique experiences where every day counts, take note of these two suggestions: o 3st Algarve International Piano Festival returns to TEMPO – Municipal Theater of Portimão with the virtuosity of the Chinese Xi Zhai and the Classical Orchestra of the Center, conducted by the Polish conductor Jan Wierzba (on the 19th); and the Fantastic Moments with Heritage provide another Urban Art Experience through the streets of Lagos (26).

Other proposals with the brand «365 Algarve» take the music of the project Vestra Fashion Albufeira (12th), Olhão (25th) and Silves (26th), while the Jazz in the Cellars invites you to taste wines from Quinta João Clara, in Alcantarilha, to the sound of the band Zeus Faber (18).

There is still room for spontaneous performances by the Algarve Flash Mob – Choir, in several locations, and yet another Algarve cataplana tasting show cataplay, in Albufeira (26).

Finally, in the old stables of Palácio de Estoi, a new cine-concert takes place Video Luce, in which silent films come to life through the piano of Filipe Raposo and the voice of Rita Maria and Ricardo Ribeiro (19).

Back to the first edition of the year of the «Algarve Guide», there is a New Year's Concert where passion, humor and Viennese blood will be present at the hands of conductor Osvaldo Ferreira and the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, with the participation of soprano Cristiana Oliveira, who has enchanted the main European stages. Presentations in Olhão (day 3) and Portimão (4).

In another event dedicated to the musical arts, Salvador Sobral The Lagos Cultural Center resumes the tour that did not end before the success of «Amar pelo Dois», a song that led to Portugal's victory at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest (shows on the 25th and 26th).

Ze Manel taxi driver, a brilliantine comedy, celebrates the 20th anniversary of one of Maria Rueff's most iconic and cherished characters. Among tourists, tuque-tuques and local accommodation, Zé Manel loses his way at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro (presentations on the 26th).

Also in the Algarve capital, Al Tango! – Algarve Tango Festival pays homage to a musical genre that arouses passion all over the world with tango and milongas lessons (18 to 20) and the show «Estrellas Al Tango!» (19).

Another January tradition, the Chorizo ​​Party from Querença, fills Largo da Igreja with a procession, tasting of roasted sausages and musical entertainment (20th).

Finally, the opening ceremony of Portimão European City of Sport 2019 promises to bring to Portimão Arena the biggest show of 360º indoor video mapping never seen in Portugal on an immersive journey through history and the world of sport (18).
