The Alcoutim Mobile Health Unit will reach the locations of Giões and Pereiro and provide consultations to the local population once a week.
On Mondays, from 14 pm onwards, the population of Pereiro will have access to free consultations. On Wednesdays, at the same time, the alcouteneja Mobile Health Unit will be in Giões.
This service will also visit the various locations in the municipality of Alcoutim, providing primary health care.
"The Mobile Health Unit is especially geared towards prevention, health surveillance and assistance in conducting medical consultations at home, as well as providing nursing care to the elderly population and those with more difficulties in accessing Health Centers", according to the Chamber of Alcoutim.
This mobile unit works within the scope of a protocol established between the municipality and the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve and, according to the mayor of Alcoutim, came to guarantee «the conditions to improve the service, adapting and reorganizing health services and access the provision of health care that the municipality was already providing».
The Mobile Health Unit has associates «a set of services that until now were only provided in Health Centers, making it possible to reinforce the service in the localities of Giões and Pereiro, where the service posts were closed, overcoming the constraint of closure and assigning a greater justice with the affected citizens, combating the inequality of access to health care».
