Professor António Covas launches book “The sixth continent and the Internet-nation”

Internet-nation metaphor

António Covas, full professor at the University of Algarve and weekly columnist for the Sul Informação, has just released a new book called “The Sixth Continent and the Internet-Nation”.

Based on this nation-Internet metaphor, the author addresses "a topic of crucial importance for our future: digital culture and the complex relationships between technology and humanity", reads the synopsis.

“The Internet-nation, which grows like a kind of sixth continent, emerges in an impressive way and imposes itself in our daily lives. As an immense virtual cloud hovers over the physical world of the remaining continents. It is difficult to predict how these two universes, physical and virtual, will cohabit and interact in the near future».

«We only have signs to be able to affirm that nothing will remain the same, even the evolution of our own species, which, by virtue of the growing man-machine hybridization, is heading towards immortality, whatever that may be. The texts in this book are small flickering lights on the expansive horizon of the sixth continent and aim to create a small embryo of reflective critical thinking on such an important subject», he concludes.

The book is by Edições Sílabo. You can read part of the work, here
