This Wednesday, November 28, the Parliament unanimously approved a proposal by the Left Bloc to amend the State Budget so that, in 2019, the «procedures» for the construction of the Algarve Central Hospital begin .

This proposal had the favorable votes of all benches (PS, PSD, CDS, Left Block, PAN, PCP and Greens).

In the document, presented by BE, it is requested that, in 2019, start the «procedures for the construction of the new hospitals in Barcelos, Póvoa de Varzim and Algarve, as well as the necessary procedures for the expansion of the José Joaquim hospital Fernandes, in Beja».

According to the Block, «new equipment is needed, in addition to hospitals whose construction has already been approved in previous budgets (Évora, Lisboa Oriental, Seixal and Funchal). The new hospitals in Barcelos, Póvoa de Varzim and Algarve are a necessity for the populations and for the National Health Service».

This proposal was voted on the same day that another one, from the PSD, also related to the Central Hospital, was failed. João Vasconcelos, deputy of the Left Bloc contacted by Sul Informação, said that this happened because the proposal of the PSD was the vote "after".

"It was a proposal that referred to a 2006 order that is outdated and not very concrete," considered the Algarve parliamentarian. PS, PCP and Bloco voted against this proposal by the Social Democrats, with abstentions from CDS, Verdes and PAN.

The proposal presented by the PSD asked the Government to "fulfill the list of priorities for new hospitals set by order in 2006, after a technical study ordered by the Government at the time," explained the PSD yesterday, in a statement.

BE's proposal for the start of the "procedures" relating to the Central Hospital of the Algarve, unanimously approved yesterday, will be included in the drafting of the State Budget for 2019, which today it was approved in the Assembly of the Republic, in a final global vote, with the votes of PS, BE, PCP, PEV and PAN. PSD and CDS voted against.
