New Mobile Health Unit is already operating in Alcoutim

New unit is "modern and functional"

The new Mobile Health Unit of Alcoutim was presented on November 1st, in Giões, and is already working.

«Modern and functional», the new unit had an investment of about 75 thousand euros, carried out by the Municipality of Alcoutim and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, under the CRESC Algarve 2020, through an application submitted by the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve in partnership with the region's municipalities, with a participation rate of 80%.

«The unit provides, in addition to usual health treatments, family health consultations, and will serve users of the Municipality of Alcoutim, who now have medical consultations in their places of residence. The new unit aims to improve primary and proximity health care for the most vulnerable populations and make care more equitable», says the City Council of Alcoutim.

Osvaldo Gonçalves, president of this municipality, welcomes the availability of this new Mobile Health Unit, but took the opportunity to «reaffirm the need to have more health professionals in the municipality».

In his speech, Paulo Morgado, president of the Board of Directors of the ARS Algarve, presented the project of ten Mobile Health Units Proximity (USMP), whose implementation, until the end of 2018, will benefit older users of the National Health Service, more vulnerable and residing in low-density rural territories and to ensure a modernized provision of health care close to the populations in the municipalities of Albufeira, Alcoutim, Aljezur, Castro Marim, Loulé, Monchique, Portimão, São Brás de Alportel, Silves and Tavira .
