Dog trapped in Lagoa cliff rescued from the sea

The medium-sized, one-year-old dog had to be sedated in order to be rescued safely.

A dog that was isolated on a cliff to the west of Praia dos Caneiros, in the municipality of Lagoa, was saved this Sunday by the National Maritime Authority (AMN), by sea, with the help of the veterinarian of the Lagoon Chamber.

The animal, of medium size and one year old, was trapped in a rocky area, with no access by land. Even access by sea was difficult, so "it was necessary for the team to disembark by swimming and using a board", according to AMN.

Bearing in mind that the dog “showed some nervousness and aggression”, the rescue team had to sedate him in order to be safely transported to the municipal kennel.

The operation involved a vessel belonging to the local command of the Maritime Police of Portimão, with two agents, a crew member from the Ferragudo Life-Saving Station and a veterinarian from the Lagoa City Council on board.
