Campaign of the Food Bank in the Algarve gathers 2500 volunteers in 140 stores

“Sharing feels good” is the motto of the new campaign

The new campaign Food Bank against Hunger takes place this weekend, 1st and 2nd December, and will bring together, in the Algarve, 2500 volunteers in 140 stores spread across the 16 municipalities of the region.

Ao Sul Informação, Nuno Cabrita Alves, president of the Food Bank against Hunger in the Algarve, said that the number of volunteers had risen "considerably compared to the last campaign in May", which is "a good sign".

“In the last campaign we had a great lack of volunteers, which meant that we could not build a significant number of stores. This time, if nothing fails, there is the possibility of going to more stores», he explained.

This increase, in the opinion of the responsible for the Food Bank against Hunger in the Algarve, is due both to the «Christmas block» and to the fact that «this is not a long weekend»

The goal for this campaign is to collect 140 tons of food in the region. The Christmas campaign, explained Nuno Cabrita Alves, «usually goes better».

Once again, non-perishable products are favored, such as milk, preserves, olive oil and oil, rice, sugar, flour, biscuits and pasta.

At the national level, the campaign has the participation of 42 volunteers. The Food Bank also provides, between the 29th of November and the 9th of December, aan online donation portal, in which it is possible to donate food to those who need it most.

At the same time, the “Ajuda Vale” campaign is being carried out in supermarkets. On proper supports placed in the boxes, there will be vouchers of selected products, representing a product.
