The municipalities of Vila do Bispo and Albufeira were the winners of the contest “Best Municipalities to Live”, in the Economy and Social categories, respectively. The awards for this initiative by INTEC – Institute of Behavioral Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa were delivered this Tuesday, at the Madan Parque Auditorium, in Almada.

Vila do Bispo was distinguished for the project “AEC Knowledge of the Local Heritage of the Municipality of Vila do Bispo”, while Albufeira won for the “Autarquia + Segura – Albufeira's Automatic External Defibrillation Program (PDAE)”. The municipality of Loulé will also receive an award, but for participation, for the initiative “Uma Expressão, Mil Palavra” (One Expression, One Thousand Words).

The «The best Municipalities for Living» awards distinguish municipal initiatives in the areas of Environment, Economy and Social, having as indicators health, urbanism and housing, environment, accessibility and transport, tourism, economy and employment, education and training, cultural identity and leisure, diversity, tolerance and security, and happiness.

Vila do Bispo, who shared the prize in its category with Viana do Castelo, was awarded for the educational project “AEC – Knowledge of the Local Heritage of the Municipality of Vila do Bispo”, which “is based on sharing the importance of various aspects of History, of the Municipality's Natural and Cultural Heritage, enriching the children with a series of contents related to the environment in which they live and study, thus integrating themselves into an education and heritage awareness strategy aimed at the community», according to the Vila-Bispense Chamber.

«This unprecedented subject assumed, as its essential objective, to make known the History, Local, Natural and Cultural Heritage, Material and Intangible, available in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, actively contributing to its conservation and awareness, information and development of children, and their families, training them as future and legitimate managers of a rich collective heritage», added the municipality.

Albufeira's proposal – which also shared the award, in this case with the municipality of Oeiras -, «consisted in the installation of 11 automatic defibrillators on public roads and another two in vehicles, as well as training in Basic Life Support (SBV) and Automatic External Defibrillation (AED) of 170 people, including civilians, municipal employees and elements of the GNR and the Volunteer Firefighters».

"The External Automatic Defibrillation Program of a community nature that we have installed in the county is innovative and pioneering nationally and internationally, there is no system that has booths on the public road with remote opening and GSM activation for first responders", according to the president of the Council of Albufeira José Carlos Rolo.

The DAE equipment is in specially prepared and signposted booths, next to anchor buildings, such as some municipal structures, and in places with a large influx of people.
