The European Championship of the Moth sailing class will be held from May 29th to June 2nd, in Lagos Bay.

This is a class in which "high-performance flying monohulls" participate, explains the Clube de Vela de Lagos.

At the end of May, «temperatures are relatively high and cause the thermal breeze to extend into the afternoon, providing a constant wind and flat water – perfect conditions for the Moth to be able to fly», he explains.

For this reason, the Clube de Vela de Lagos guarantees, with these conditions «one more great show is guaranteed» with «the best sailors of today in action».

According to the direction of the club, this will be «another great nautical event» in Lagos, after that city has «hosted, with great success, the GC32 Lagos Cup».

«With this championship, we will continue to consolidate Lagos as one of the most emblematic nautical destinations in Europe, in particular for boats with foils, which represent the present and future of circuit and Olympic sailing.
This is also the opportunity to continue to foster the relationship between the club and the city and, once again, to involve the entire community in this event», he says.

«The Moth Class is very pleased that Lagos will host the next European Championship, as here we have the perfect combination of nature, culture and ideal conditions for boats with foils», considers, in turn, Luca Rizzotti, president of Classe Moth.

After, in 2018, the GC32 had an impact on the local economy and international promotion of over 3,5 million euros, the organization hopes that, in this competition, the impact will be identical.

According to the Clube de Vela de Lagos, «Classe Moth is visiting Portugal for the first time thanks to the efforts of the Municipality of Lagos, Sopromar and Marina de Lagos».
