“The Greens” speak of hungry and thirsty animals after the Monchique fire

Ecological Party wants to know what the Government will do to minimize the situation

"The Greens" say they have heard "several reports" about the existence of "many animals" with thirst and hunger after the fire in Monchique, having already asked the Government if it is aware of the situation.

Deputy José Luís Ferreira, of the Parliamentary Group “Os Verdes”, submitted to the Assembly of the Republic a question to the Government, through the Ministry of Environment, about the existence of “many animals with symptoms of thirst and hunger”, after the fire that affected the municipalities of Monchique. Silves, Portimão and Odemira.

According to that party, there are "several reports" about "many animals, such as foxes, deer and others, including a lynx" that have appeared "near properties in the Monchique mountains with symptoms of thirst and hunger."

As for bobcats, the Government has already announced an investment of 500 thousand euros for return home (to the National Center for the Reproduction of the Iberian Lynx, in Silves) until November.

“In view of the area burned in the aftermath of that fire, this scenario was expected and more than predictable, but, according to the inhabitants, nothing was done to protect these animals after the destruction of their natural ecosystem”, say the Greens.

The ecological party wants to know if any plan has been drawn up, through the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests, or any other body, for the maintenance and restoration of ecosystems affected by fires", as well as whether "measures have not yet been taken" to minimize the issue of hungry and thirsty animals.
