Luz(a) returns to Loulé with videomapping, “School” and clouds on the street

Event has the support of "365Algarve"

Videomapping in Paços do Concelho, the piece “Cardume”, which appeals to the issue of climate change, or “Cloud in Street”, an artistic installation that will fill a street with clouds, are attractions of LUZA – Algarve International Light Festival that starts this Thursday, November 1st, in Loulé.

Until the 3rd, the city will be invaded by light. This year, in the second edition of the festival, there is a bet "on interactivity with the public and a strong message in terms of environmental problems", says Câmara de Loulé.

The production of ByBeau Studio and Eventors'Lab, which has the support of the Municipality of Loulé and has the seal of 365Algarve, intends to "exceed last year's numbers" and consolidate itself as one of the events that make up the circuit of Europe's light festivals.

«For this, LUZA invests in different formats (exhibitions, installations, performances, conferences, workshops) that stand out for their innovation, creativity and boldness in what concerns the universe of light and its multiple applications and potentials», says the local authority.

One of the new features in this edition, as explained by Beau McClellan at the presentation press conference held last Friday, October 26th, is LUZA Kids – Lumo meets Precious Plastic.

Since the «future of this Planet is in the hands of children», this initiative, which takes place in the educational services of the Municipal Museum, aimed at schools and the general public, aims to show the transformation of plastic pieces into artistic pieces. Small participants are invited to bring a plastic object that will be recycled and, together, with all recycled pieces, a large tile will be created.

Two projects from the municipality – Loulé Design Lab and Loulé Criativo – join LUZA's programming in this edition. with an installation in the Cloisters of the Espírito Santo Convent “Candeeiros do Pidutournée”.

There will also be the possibility of buying the lamps made by the artisans at Casa da Empreita, located in the historic center of Loulé.

To this is added a training action, with a Light Art Workshop “Introduction to Art Light Painting Photography”, with Kim Van Coels and Phil Fisher: “a new trend in the world of lighting”

Another novelty is the “Working with Light” Conference, at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, where the Festival's artists and the general public will be invited to a debate where some famous names from the world of lighting participate.

LUZA is once again an international showcase, with artists from around the world: Portugal, Austria, Spain, Germany, Scotland, Russia, Slovenia or France.

The urban route that visitors can take in this second edition is similar to that of 2017, except for the fact that it ends in front of the ArtCatto Gallery, on Avenida José da Costa Mealha.

The starting point is once again the Sanctuary of the Mother Sovereign, where the inaugural moment of the Festival takes place, the “Torch Light Parade”.

This will be the opening moment of the festival and will once again have the participation of the public and some artists, who will transport the lit torches to the fairground, where they will be placed, forming a design. A donation will be made for each torch and all the money collected will be donated to Associação Existir.

As stated by Ana Fernandes, from the organization, “Infinity”, an installation that creates the connection between our planet and the universe, by the German team The Core, the work that will be installed at Mãe Soberana, «will be the ex-libris of the event even because of the size (in height) that will make it visible to all who pass through these days on the A22».

At the Santo António Convent, Elías Merino and Tadej Drolic (Spain/Slovenia) present the audiovisual project “Synspecies”, inspired by “virtual ecologies”.

On Rua Nossa Senhora da Piedade, Telmo Ribeiro presents “Cloud in Street”, an artistic installation that will place the street with clouds three to four meters from the ground, through smoke and laser. «These clouds will be in motion, causing people to lose track of space and time along the street», says Câmara de Loulé.

The only work that will be in the form of a spectacle is “Water Melody”, “a brilliant and extraordinary combination of music and water painting, by the Russians Olga Kaurova & Artur Bochkivskiy, in the Church of S. Francisco, all the others being permanent, during opening hours between 18:30 and 00:00 with free entry».

On the Castle façade, the interactive installation “Flora”, by Phillip Artrus, will allow the viewer to interactively control the animation with a touch pad.

In the fountain, it is the silver of the house that will shine. The artists of Loulé and Faro – José Jesus, Ricardo Jesus and Ricardo Ferreira – will make an intervention in the emblematic fountain of Bica Velha.

“Lumo” is the installation developed by Irena Ubler and Daniel Rodrigues, based on the transformation and reuse of recycled plastic, which can be seen at Largo D. Pedro I, also as a way of raising awareness among visitors about the importance of collection and transformation. of plastic.

At Alcaidaria do Castelo, the Algarve's Boris Chimp 504 will repeat this event, with the installation “InterWorlds”, while at Cerca do Convento there will be another interactive installation – “For iTernity”, which intends to be a choreography of light, based on the famous ballet solo “The Dying Swan”. «It is a piece of discovery throughout the various performances», considers Ana Fernandes of the organization.

The video mapping and sound will be present this year at the Paços do Concelho building, by Klaus Obermaier, who takes the installation “Dancing House” to this LUZA.

Beau McClellan, the artist who is also the Festival's mentor, returns with the piece “Cardume”, another of the points of this Festival that appeals to the global issue of climate change. This work will be exhibited at the Cine-Teatro Louletano.

At the ArtCatto Gallery, LUZA Lab presents the installation “Light Box”, by the artist residing in Paris, Filipa Cruz, while from Lisbon it will come to Loulé Nuno Mika, to present “Memória Sonorosa”, on the alley in front of Cerca do Convento , under the new media art.

«We believe that this year we will surpass the numbers of last year», concluded Ana Fernandes.
