Raminhos, Flamenco, golf and puppets liven up Algarve in September

A show by António Raminhos, the Flamenco Festival of Lagos, the Portugal Masters of golf and the FOMe – Festival of Objects and Puppets and Other Eating are animation proposals for the Algarve, during the month of September. 

The latest edition of the “Guia Algarve”, a monthly publication that brings together the events held in the region, is being distributed at tourist information offices of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) and available for download with more than 180 cultural and sporting proposals, among other suggestions to enjoy the destination in September.

Scheduled to start this Thursday, September 6th, the Mediterranean Diet Fair starts in the historic center of Tavira. 

Over four days, there will be an institutional fair, gastronomic experiences, workshops, heritage visits, street entertainment and lots of music presented on stages across the city, including a concert by the world-acclaimed gypsy Spanish flamenco singer Diego El Cigala (7th at 22:30 pm, at Praça da República).

Also in music, Berg, winner of the 1st edition of the “Factor X” program, joins the Algarve project Fad'Nu, composed by José Alegre on Portuguese guitar and Cátia Alhandra on voice, for a concert on the 15th, at 21 pm, at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, in Loulé.

In theater, António Raminhos brings “O Melhor do Worse” to the Algarve, a show that is a visit to his life in 2016 and 2017, and also “Jacaré”, a Portuguese-Brazilian production written by Cláudio Torres Gonzaga, in which he stars with Abbadhia Vieira (on the 28th, at 21 pm, in the Duval Pestana auditorium of the Centro Cultural de Lagos).

The Carpets of Morocco exhibition continues until 31 October, at the Municipal Auditorium of Olhão, in the scope of the twinning between the cities of Olhão and Agadir. It is conceptualized and produced by the Al Moutamid Ibn Abbad Association and the Honorary Consulate of the Kingdom of Morocco in the Algarve in partnership with the Municipality of Oyenne.

Returning is the Flamenco Festival of Lagos, the oldest held in Portugal. In this edition, each show is diametrically opposed, so that the audience understands the different languages ​​of this genre of music and dance. There are performances by Gonzalo Quintero, Chiqui Cienfuegos and Mirabras (from 13 pm to 15 pm, at 21:30 pm, at Centro Cultural de Lagos).

In September, the Algarve hosts the world's golf elite at the Portugal Masters, the only national tournament to be part of the European Tour. from 20 to 23, at Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course, in Vilamoura).

The 6th edition of FOMe – Object and Puppet Festival includes this year «Outros Eats». The initiative brings together puppets to gastronomy, from the 14th to the 29th of September, in Albufeira, Loulé, Faro, São Brás de Alportel, Olhão and Tavira.

As for the crafts and flavors fair, “Artechique” is back in Monchique and intends to contribute to the dissemination and marketing of the most genuine products of the Algarve mountains, such as sausages, bread, sweets, honey, medronho brandy, honeydew and pot cake .

Visiting the fair, participating in entertainment activities, appreciating the manual skills of local artisans and tasting the typical products are also a way of supporting the recovery of the local economy and a stimulus to the people of Monchique (from 7 to 9, between 10 am and at 00:23, at Largo dos Chorões).

You can also take the opportunity to visit the Ship-School Sagres, in an initiative included in the commemorations of the Day of the Municipality of Faro which has the support of the Algarve Tourism Region, materialized in the presence on the commercial wharf of the Algarve capital of a faithful replica of the caravels of the Portuguese Discoveries.

Until the 7th, there are free visits to the NRP Sagres and the Boa Esperança caravel (from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 14:00 pm to 16:00 pm).
