Congratulations to us: o Sul Informação 7 years ago today

Like Sul Informação can't stop, soon we'll have more projects to launch and present to our loyal readers

O Sul Informação was born seven years ago, on 26 September 2011. On the first day, the newspaper, the only and admittedly online one, had 8826 readers (but the next day it dropped to 4354 pageviews), a number that, at the end of the first month, had 58.649 views.

Today, seven years later, the Sul Informação has an average of 30 pageviews per day, and there are days when it clearly exceeds this average. On August 7, for example, it got 72.361 hits (data from Google Analytics). The step-by-step coverage of the Monchique fire, with on-site reporting, was at the origin of this large number of readers, which made many national newspapers envious.

But already this year, on February 28th, and because of the tornado that wreaked havoc on Faro: Sul Informação had pulverized its own viewing records, reaching 105.144 pageviews in a single day (data from Google Analytics).

Other data that indicate the natural growth of our newspaper are the pageviews accumulated over a year of work. In the first year of existence of the Sul Informação, between September 2011 and the same month of 2012, the newspaper had just over one million views (1.003.194 pageviews).

Very different numbers from the most recent data: in the last year, the Sul Informação got a total of almost 7 million pageviews (6.892.388), in other words, about seven times the number of views obtained during the first year of our newspaper's life.

Also on social networks, the Sul Informação it is the newspaper in the south of the country with the most organic reach. We have already surpassed 40 thousand followers on Facebook, around 2400 followers on Twitter and close to 2200 on Instagram. On Facebook, which in Portugal is the most active social network, posts on our page often reach tens of thousands of people or even more than 130 thousand people reached, as is the case here:

On November 26, 2011, the Sul Informação was born by the hand of a team of three journalists, who had previously worked together in another regional newspaper in the Algarve: Elisabete Rodrigues: Hugo Rodrigues and the Nuno Costa.

Two years ago, in July 2016, another journalist, the young man, joined this fixed team. Pedro Lemos. But the big family of Sul Informação it is made up of other collaborating journalists (especially the team of video reporters, Nilton Nunes and Taciana Sander), our exclusive columnists and, above all, our readers, who do not cease to encourage us to do more and better and who, they are so often our most precious sources of information.

In these seven years of life, the Sul Informação has already done two deep remodels of its website. The first on July 2, 2014 and the second this year, launched in a Friday the 13th, last July.

Because the world of journalism is always in constant evolution, the Sul Informação, even without the resources of national and international newspapers, has sought to evolve and innovate, as well as being present in the media world. To this end, it has established partnerships with other media, in the first place with Rádio Universitária do Algarve, RUA FM, for which our newspaper provides the daily section, in the morning, on the highlights of regional, national and international, as well as a large biweekly interview program, «Impressions», among other collaborations.

Since the beginning of this year, our newspaper has also been part of the panel of commentators on RTP's «Portugal em Direto» program, with regular interventions every three weeks.

Also, last week, the Sul Informação formalized the partnership with Jornal de Notícias, which creates the Rede de Notícias, a content sharing network that involves the main regional media across the country.

After we started to work at each journalist's home (our first official headquarters was in Lagoa), later the Sul Informação worked in partnership with RUA FM, occupying a corner in the radio newsroom. Finally, since mid-2016, as a company startup that we are, our newsroom is installed in the Centro Empresarial da Universidade do Algarve, with CRIA, on the Campus of Gambelas, in Faro.

Right now, seven years after the launch of the newspaper that many considered to be a crazy project (don't forget that it was launched in the middle of a crisis!), the Sul Informação It now asserts itself as the organ with the highest audience in the Algarve and Baixo Alentejo. It has been seven years of hard work, a lot of struggle, of “blood, sweat and tears”, but also of many, many joys, creativity, imagination.

And how the Sul Informação can't stop, soon we'll have more projects to launch and to present to our loyal readers. One of them has to do with Alentejo.
