Levante on the south coast of the Algarve coincides with spring tides and could bring danger

The Southeast also brings very pleasant seawater temperatures: even in the Sagres area, today the water will reach 22ºC and in the next few days it will be around 21ºC

The Levante, which begins this Tuesday, the 25th, and continues until September 28th, on the south coast of the Algarve, coincides this time with a period of autumn spring tides, for which the National Maritime Authority requests special care from bathers and the all those who practice recreational activities at sea (leisure boats, jet skis, pedal boats, among others).

According to AMN, "in the coming days, the Algarve coast will be affected by conditions of maritime agitation from the southeast, usually known as Levante conditions."

The Levante peak is planned for the early morning of September 27, when winds are expected to reach around 56 km/h and swell with a significant height of around 2 meters along the coast, and 2,5 meters offshore .

The Maritime Authority adds that "special attention" should be given to this sustada, since it coincides with a period of spring tides, where the highest high tide will register 3,7 meters, on 26 September, at 16:18.

The Southeast also brings very pleasant seawater temperatures: even in the area of Sagres, today the water will reach 22ºC and in the next few days it will be around 21ºC. In the rest of the south coast, the temperature will be around 24ºC.

Despite this phenomenon of the Levante being regular on the south coast, AMN recommends that bathers and all those who practice recreational activities at sea take into account the following recommendations:

– Choose guarded beaches;

– Respect the signage of the beaches, namely the signs of the flags, as well as the advice of lifeguards and the Maritime Authority / Maritime Police;

– Avoid recreational activities or walks at sea in less favorable weather conditions, namely with jet skis, pedal boats, stand-up-paddlle, among others, as well as walks in the sea and visits to caves, choosing for these activities days where the sea and wind conditions are more favorable.

– Maintain a permanent hydration, avoiding periods of greater exposure to the sun;

– Do not hesitate to ask for help when in difficulties, whether at sea or even on land;

– Permanently monitor children and from a close distance;

– Always swim parallel to the beach;

– Respect a break of three hours after a normal meal before taking a shower;

– Do not jump into the water, except in supervised and specific places for this purpose, and acrobatics must be avoided;

– Do not bathe and/or swim under the influence of alcohol or drugs;

– Respect the danger signs of landslides on the cliffs;

The National Maritime Authority ends by recalling the old but still very effective slogan: "There is Sea and Sea, there is going and Returning!"
