The Government has 10 million euros destined to recover "all the installations of the GNR and PSP security forces", from Aljezur to Vila Real de Santo António. The guarantee was given by the Secretary of State for Internal Administration during the signing ceremony of a protocol aimed at the rehabilitation of the GNR Post facilities in Olhos de Água.

Isabel Oneto was in Albufeira last Friday to formalize a cooperation agreement between the Algarve municipality, the General Secretariat for Internal Administration and the GNR.

The document that was signed «is intended to ensure the procedures prior to the signing of the inter-administrative cooperation contract between the Governing Area of the Internal Administration and the Municipality of Albufeira, through which the aforementioned building will be equipped with the necessary conditions to ensure safety populations and countless tourists who visit the locality», according to the Chamber.

In the case of the future headquarters of the GNR in Olhos de Água, the financial effort will not be solely from the central state. The municipality of Albufeirense will contribute 50% of the amount needed for the rehabilitation and will prepare the project for the execution of the work.

Isabel Oneto considered the support given by the Municipality of Albufeira "particularly significant", even more "at a time when we have a large investment in the entire district".

"There has been close collaboration with all municipalities in the Algarve and also with Albufeira, namely since the Local Security Contract was signed, which allows the Central Administration and local authorities to find answers locally to internal security issues," he said. the Secretary of State for Home Affairs.

«From Aljezur to Vila Real de Santo António, we are recovering all the facilities of the GNR and PSP security forces, so that the Algarve, as a tourist region, but also the people who live here, have security forces with decent facilities for the fulfillment of its mission”, he concluded.

«This is a simple ceremony, but one of great significance for the council. Now it is important to move forward quickly with the signing of the inter-administrative contract so that the construction works can start and the future GNR Headquarters in Olhos de Água will soon be a reality», wished, for his part, the mayor of Albufeira José Carlos Rolo.
