Writer and athlete are honored on the Day of the Municipality of Lagos

In addition to the name, both have in common "the determination and the ability to deliver to their activities, being evidenced by the rigor and quality of their work"

The writer Glória Marreiros and the athlete Diogo Marreiros are the people that the Municipality of Lagos intends to honor on the 27th of October, Municipal Holiday, through the attribution of decorations provided for in municipal regulations.

To this end, at the last Council Meeting held yesterday, a proposal was unanimously presented and approved with the Standing Committee of the Municipal Assembly of Lagos, which provides for the award of the Municipal Merit Medal – Gold Grade to the writer and researcher Glória Maria Marreiros da Cunha and the Municipal Medal of Merit – Silver Degree to Diogo Trindade Marreiros, Lacobrigense Speed ​​Skating athlete.

The Câmara de Lagos explains that, «in common, in addition to the nickname “Marreiros”, these two figures have the determination and the capacity to deliver to their activities, being evidenced by the rigor and quality of their work».

Civic and political activist, defender of the appreciation and recognition of the role of women in society, researcher in the areas of Child Psychology, Ethnology, Social Museology and Local History, writer and author of a vast and diverse published work, Glória Marreiros is «a reference of the generation that fought the dictatorship, made the revolution and helped to build a democratic and modern Portugal, embracing various activities, all with remarkable success».

The Chamber considers that «worthy of recognition is also Diogo Marreiros, the young athlete from Lacobrigense who, throughout his competitive career, has achieved successive titles, national and international, contributing significantly to the affirmation of Speed ​​Skating as a sport and, simultaneously, for the projection of the city of Lagos and the country itself».

The Municipal Medal of Merit is one of the highest awards provided for in municipal regulation, being awarded to individual or collective persons who, by their act, have notably contributed to the enhancement of the name of the Municipality of Lagos, or by the dissemination of the their values, people or culture, whether because they have distinguished themselves in any branch of art, science, sport, environmental protection or economic activity.

The proposal to award these awards will now be submitted to the approval of the Municipal Assembly of Lagos for ratification. and place to advertise.
