Closing of the European Sport Week wants to gather 1500 people in Quarteira

Event will bring together Olympic, world, European and national champions

The closing of the 4th edition of the European Sport Week takes place this Sunday, September 30, at Passeio das Dunas, in Quarteira (Loulé).

This "great event" will transform "a prime city setting into a multi-sport mega that is as eclectic as possible, conducive to healthy sport throughout the year, demonstrating the strength of sports associations in the Algarve region with the presence of numerous clubs and associations in the Algarve , fundamental partners for the success of the event», says the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ).

Thus, during the morning of September 30, between 9:00 am and 13:00 pm, Passeio das Dunas, in Quarteira, will stage the closing event of the European Sport Week. In a total of 25 sports, the population is invited to enjoy various activities, in a morning dedicated to promoting sport and healthy living, where around 1500 participants are expected.

The Marcha-Corrida de Quarteira (March of Sweet Potatoes) will take place in this event, with a concentration at 9:45 am on the Passeio das Dunas and departure scheduled for 10:00 am. At the end, there will be a meeting in which sweet potatoes will be distributed to the participants of the march.

Vítor Pataco, president of the IPDJ's Board of Directors, Vítor Aleixo, president of the Loulé Council, Telmo Pinto, president of the Quarteira Parish Council, and Custódio Moreno, IPDJ's Algarve regional director, will welcome all guests at 9:30 am and participants from sports clubs and associations, schools, local authorities, municipal walking and running centres, gyms and informal groups linked to sports.

This great sporting event will also be joined by Olympic, world, European and national champions to share their testimony as ambassadors of BeActive.

This initiative has, in Portugal, the High Sponsorship of the President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and the Secretary of State for Youth and Sport João Paulo Rebelo.
