Vila Real de Santo António City Council amends municipal social support regulations

Chamber will create a “VRSA Family Card”

The Vila Real de Santo António City Council is going to start revising the regulation of the “VRSA Social” and “VRSA Família” programs with the aim of making “more transparent and fairer the criteria for economic assistance provided by the Social Action Division”.

The municipality of Vila Real wants to "unify the two aid mechanisms into a single one, thus giving rise to the future "VRSA Family Card", which will adapt the various municipal support to the different socio-economic realities of the households.

According to the Chamber of VRSA, "the regulation of the new card will stipulate the conditions under which citizens with greater financial vulnerability or economic need will be able to access a set of benefits co-funded by the Municipal Council, namely in the areas of health and social assistance."

The Municipality will also initiate the amendment of the Municipal Regulation of Support to Housing Lease of VRSA, «taking into account the changes in the housing paradigm registered in recent years, taking alternative and diversified measures that respond to the effective needs of the community».

This regulation “aims to redefine the conditions of access to economic support for the rental of dwellings for households with economic and housing needs, when it is not possible to respond to these situations using the municipality's housing assets”.

On the other hand, adds the municipality, "it will seek to provide objectivity, frame and discipline the procedures necessary for access to subsidy for housing leases by families with lesser resources residing in the municipality of VRSA."

For Conceição Cabrita, Mayor of VRSA, "the new regulations will contribute so that the various municipal social action programs can respond to the real needs of those in need of support, allowing for a more rigorous, fair and transparent management."

Those interested in making suggestions or making contributions may do so, in writing, within 15 working days.
