61-year-old German saved from drowning in unguarded area of ​​Culatra

The man was in a situation of pre-drowning and was transported to the Hospital of Faro

A 61-year-old man was saved this Sunday from drowning, on Culatra Island, in the municipality of Faro. The German citizen was assisted by a team from the Portuguese Red Cross, and was later rescued by a vessel from the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos, which brought him ashore to be transported to the hospital in Faro.

According to the National Maritime Authority (AMN), the man was "in a situation of pre-drowning in an unguarded beach area, on the eastern tip of Ilha da Culatra."

The first aid was provided at 16:45 pm yesterday by the Red Cross. In the meantime, "the vessel of the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos (ISN) was activated with an INEM team on board, which traveled to the site and carried out the rescue by sea."

«The victim was transported consciously to the Olhão pier, where the ambulance that transported her to the Hospital in Faro», added AMN.

Two agents from the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Olhão were involved in this operation, the ISN vessel with two crew members, a team from the Portuguese Red Cross and a team from INEM.
