Who wants to be a salt maker for a day in Castro Marim?

Another initiative of the Odiana association, within the scope of the Creatour project

Being a salt maker for a day is possible at the workshop on traditional salt pans, which takes place on the 14th of August, in Castro Marim.

The initiative, organized by the Odiana association, includes a tourist visit to the salt pans, with the right to collect handmade salt and flower salt and use the saline spa.

This “is the ideal opportunity to discover the traditional knowledge used for centuries in the extraction of salt, and finally, to feel nature in the salt pans”, says Odiana.

It will also be possible to «know how salt is produced, on a tourist visit that offers the possibility of collecting salt and salt flower, by hand». And, to complete this experience, the «saline spa to relax and balance energies: a floating bath of mineral salts and application of saline clay» can be used.

The time for this initiative will be from 16:00 pm to 20:00 pm, at Salina da Barquinha, in Castro Marim, organized by Odiana.

For now, the association has opened a form for pre-registration, which runs until August 9, which can be filled out. here

The minimum number of participants for the workshop is four people and a maximum of eight. Once these conditions are met, participants (in order of registration) will receive a confirmation email and the NIB for mandatory prepayment of 30 euros.

As there is no minimum number of participants, Odiana reserves the right to change the workshop date, always in conjunction with interested applicants.

This activity follows on from the Odiana project “Oficinas do Saber Tradicional”, in collaboration with Cooperativa Terras de Sal and the company Água Mãe.

The objective is “the tourist revitalization of the traditional activities of Baixo Guadiana, through unique experiences that attract more tourists and involve the local community in the culture of identity” in that region.

This activity is part of the “Creatour” project, which aims to pilot a research agenda focused on creative tourism in small towns and rural areas.

The “Creatour” is coordinated by the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra and financed by the Joint Activities Program (PAC) of Portugal 2020.
