VRSA: Spanish boat caught illegally fishing for sardines

Vessel had 400 kilos of sardines on board

A Spanish fishing boat, carrying around 400 kilos of sardines, was seized at dawn on 13 August, around 00:30, by the Maritime Police of Vila Real de Santo António, for being fishing during a period of interdiction.

​The approximately 400 kilos of sardines caught by the vessel were seized and unloaded at Docapesca in VRSA, where they were sold at auction, with the amount of the revenue reverting to the State.

According to the Maritime Authority, the Spanish vessel incurs an administrative offense punishable between 600 euros and 37 euros.

Three agents of the Maritime Police were involved in the operation.
