The rankings were based on the number of “hashtags” used on Instagram for the name of a beach and based on data collected between July and August 2018 (www.holidu.pt).
According to Holidu, Instagram has become «so popular that it defines consumption habits and nowadays many people, especially “millennials”, choose the
travel destination based on how “unstampable” the place is».
The organization underlines the growing role of the smartphone to record vacation moments and then post on social networks, especially on Instagram, when in the past these photos used to end up in the family album.
“The instagrammability of a place has become one of the most important criteria for generations Y and Z when choosing a travel destination”, stresses Fernando Esteves, spokesperson for Holidu.
