The early hours of the morning revealed that yesterday, at the end of the day, the decision was made to remove the residents of the Perna da Negra site: during the night about a dozen houses, outbuildings and agricultural crops, as well as cars, burned.

Part of the vehicles that burned were old motorhomes and vans that served as a home for the foreign community that lived in the area and that yesterday fled in time, according to SIC.

However, despite the fact that one of the fire fronts is "dominated", the other continues to plow with intensity, in areas of difficult access, where not even air resources are able to act effectively.

In such a way that the flames have already entered the neighboring municipality of Odemira, forcing people to be removed from the village of Moitinhas, in the parish of Sabóia.

José Alberto Guerreiro, mayor of Odemira, said the close to 20 residents of Moitinhas were removed as a precaution last night, having been taken to the Sabóia Social Center, where they spent the night. In the morning, the mayor added, the fire was about two kilometers from the village, in an area of eucalyptus, although "with better accesses than on the Monchique side".

Yesterday, the fire had already crossed the border to Odemira, having destroyed «about 30 hectares», in the Serra de Algares, located in the northern foothills of the Serra de Monchique.

The fire in the Serra de Monchique is being fought by 738 operatives, supported by 186 vehicles and 11 aerial means – four helicopters, four Fireboss medium planes, two Canadairs and also a reconnaissance plane.
