Câmara de Olhão launches competition to renovate urban furniture

At issue is the renovation of advertising billboards and bus stop shelters

The Municipality of Olhão launched a tender for the modernization of urban furniture throughout the county, namely advertising billboards and bus stop shelters. This procedure is launched following the end of the contract that the municipality had, 28 years ago, with the company JC Decaux.

According to the mayor of Olhão, "a year ago, contacts were initiated with the company in question, in order to timely renegotiate the contract that would end in 2018, namely with regard to two fundamental issues for us, which were the replacement of the existing furniture by more modern equipment, similar to what JC Decaux has been doing in other municipalities, as well as the amounts to be paid for the occupation of public space and advertising».

However, reveals the municipality, no consensus was reached on this last point, so the company proceeded “to remove the urban furniture that was installed throughout the municipality”.

«We immediately started the process of opening the public tender for the installation of shelters and mupis, so the council will have new, more modern, more dignified and safer equipment, as soon as possible», explained António Pina.
