Sardines were the motto, last Saturday, for another cultural and gastronomic tour of the Group of Friends of the Portimão Museum (GAMP), which was joined by French friends from Alliance Francaise do Algarve.

The tour, which was attended by more than 60 people, was made along the banks of the Arade river, discovering an interesting sardine route, from Docapesca, passing through its transformation into new artisan preserves and ending in a tasty sardine in riverside area of Portimão.

After passing through the pier where the fish is unloaded daily, there was an enlightening session inside the Docapesca facilities, about all the steps that take place there, to carry out the electronic auction for the sale and purchase of different types of fish. .

A Conservator do Arade, very close by in the Pateiro/Parchal area, was the next place, chosen to understand and taste how, through a curious artisanal process in glass jars and no longer in cans, it was possible, in this former manufacturing and industrial area, to rebirth of canned sardines, tuna, mackerel and horse mackerel.

This was followed by the long-awaited sardine, in one of the restaurants next to the iron bridges of the Arade, which would be the culmination of this GAMP fish route. The final test to assess the excellent qualities of this popular and healthy fish was carried out with distinction.
