Scooters, tricycles, cars, trucks, vans, racing cars, trains, planes, stoves, sewing machines, scales, irons, beach buckets and shovels, and even a fish. The collections of tin toys by Carlos Anjos, from Portuguese Toy Museum from Ponte de Lima, and from Vítor Vicente, from the restaurant «Can the can», from Lisbon, are now on display at the Museu de Portimão, until 2 September.

The opening of the exhibition, this Saturday at the end of the afternoon, was attended by the two collectors and fifty other people, who were delighted to see these toys made with tinplate, the same "can" they were used in. made canned sardines or olive oil. In fact, the toys displayed in the Museum's lobby are made from reused cans.

«With World War II, tinplate became scarce, giving rise to the demand for this raw material, especially in the northern region, in Alfena and later in Gondomar and Ermesinde, in Matosinhos canning factories, in the lithographs of plate and scrap, reusing the leftovers and cans already used, in order to continue the manufacture of toys», explain the collectors.

Bearing in mind that the Portimão Museum is located in the former Conservar Feu Hermanos factory, it makes sense that these memories are now shared in that space.

Until the 31st of July, the exhibition can be visited from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10:00 am to 18:00 pm, and on Tuesday, from 14:30 pm to 18:00 pm.

During the special summer hours, between August 1st and 31st, the exhibition is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 15:00 pm to 23:00 pm, and on Tuesday, between 19:30 pm and 23:00 pm.
