João Fernandes will take office as president of the Algarve Tourism Region on the 27th of July. The inauguration ceremony of the new RTA governing bodies, elected in May, will take place at the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School, in Faroat 17 pm.
The session will be attended by the secretaries of State for Tourism, European Affairs, Culture, Forests and Rural Development and Fisheries.
In addition to João Fernandes, the new RTA management team, which will assume functions for the next 5 years, is made up of Fátima Catarina, current chairman of the board of directors of Infralobo, who will be vice-president of this entity, and Nuno Monteiro, general director of the Cerro Mar hotel and vice president of the Algarve Hotel and Similar Industry Association (AIHSA).
On the same occasion, Elidérico Viegas, president of the Association of Hotels and Touristic Enterprises of the Algarve (AHETA), will assume the presidency of the board of the General Assembly of RTA, where he will be accompanied by Isolete Correia, general director of Marina de Vilamoura.
João Pedro Ferreira Caldas Fernandes, 44 years old, has a degree in Environmental Engineering and a postgraduate degree in Business Management from the University of Algarve. He improved his training in the area of tourism at Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne, Hospitality Management Institute and Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
He is currently vice-president of the executive committee of RTA, a position he has held since 2013. Between 2013 and 2014 he was also vice-president of Associação Turismo do Algarve. Between 2009 and 2013 he was the director of the Algarve Hotel and Tourism Schools grouping, Turismo de Portugal and, in that capacity, member of the general assembly of the RTA (2009-2013), director (2009-2013).
He was also the coordinator of the Planning, Assessment and Certification Center at the Professional Training Center of Faro of the IEFP (2006-2009), among other functions in the area of qualification of human resources for tourism.
