The GNR is preparing “high visibility safety operation” during the 37th International Motorbike Concentration period. Faro, until Sunday, July 22, on the access roads to the capital of the Algarve, but also on the main roads in the region.
During the Concentration period, the GNR military will be “particularly attentive to the main access routes to the city of Faro, on the accesses to Vale das Almas (place of concentration next to the International Airport of Faro)", as well as on the beach of Faro.
There will be a «permanent patrolling of the itineraries, seeking to ensure the safety and fluidity of traffic, foreseeing some restrictions in the vicinity of the event venue, both in the accesses to Vale das Almas (place of the concentration next to the Island of Faro), such as the beach of Faro, and also on the main access roads to the Algarve».
These patrolling operations are aimed not only at motorcyclists but also at motorists and the general public who wish to participate in this event.
During the operation, military personnel from various GNR fields will be engaged, with patrolling of direct accesses and the area surrounding the event's venue and control of traffic flows to ensure road safety on the main access routes to the city of Faro and to the concentration area (A2, A22, EN125 and EN2).
GNR elements will also be positioned near the concentration area and Ilha de Faro, "to guarantee tranquility and restoration, if necessary, in the face of possible situations of change in public order". Military personnel from the criminal investigation are also present.
The Territorial Command of Faro it will also be reinforced with forces from the Intervention Unit, namely the Public Order Intervention Group and the Cinotechnic Intervention Group, and also from the National Traffic Unit.
The GNR also appeals to citizens who have flights scheduled from the Airport of Faro, during the period in which the event takes place, that they move to that location well in advance, avoiding any traffic constraints on the EN 125-10.
Security at the Motard Concentration has been the order of the day, after the arrest of 59 elements of the Hells Angels group, in Portugal. Many of them belong to the Portuguese cell of this group, which has a strong presence in the Algarve.
At issue may be a revenge, taking place at the Motard Concentration, of other elements of the Hells Angels, as well as a possible settlement of accounts between this group and rivals Los Bandidos.
