Photogallery: The world's largest passenger plane has landed in Beja

The aircraft manages to land in Beja as this airport has a runway of five kilometers

An Airbus Airbus A380, the largest passenger aircraft in the world, landed at 17:00 this Monday, July 23, at the Beja International Airport.

The plane, belonging to the Portuguese airline HiFly, did not bring passengers, but it was far from empty, considering the many elements that make up its crew. It will now be parked in the Alentejo city.

The choice of Beja was closely linked to the fact that the Alentejo airport has two runways, one five kilometers long, the other more than three, making it the only one in mainland Portugal capable of hosting an aircraft of this magnitude.

This is just one of the characteristics that lead researcher Manuel Tão and the citizens' movement “Beja Merece Mais” to believe that, with an investment in accessibility, this airport infrastructure could serve as an alternative to the already congested Lisbon Airport and serve not only the capital, but also the Algarve and Spanish Extremadura.
